The 269E Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) exam is based on the General Performance Objectives — the Skill Sets in the Training Standard. The pass mark is 70%.

Two skill sets — Plan, Build, Maintain and Disassemble Systems (26%) and Install, Control and Disassemble Lighting (21%) — together make up nearly half the exam. Focused review there is likely to pay off disproportionately.

Two paths to the exam

Registered apprentices sit the exam after completing (or nearing completion of) their apprenticeship. See Becoming Certified.
Exam-challenge applicants (never formally apprenticed) may sit the exam directly if they can show 5,000 hours of on-the-job experience and competency in all mandatory skills. See Becoming Certified.
